Hi Kylie here. Welcome to catch up with Kylie.
Kylie has been out with 6W this week learning to conquer the High Jump. We are all training to compete in the FWPS Athletics Day to be held in Week 8. Thanks to Mrs Rahmati, we have learned the techniques to jump higher and leave the FEAR behind.

Term 3 2014
We started the term with Book Week. Each class produced a door display about a book they were reading in class. 6W has a fantastic book called Mastering Manga. It is a step by step instruction manual about drawing manga (Japanese comic people). The students in class sketched the front cover of Mastering Manga on giant sheets of paper, worked in groups painting the characters and then stuck the painting to the double doors of the classroom. A photo of our class door was on the front page of the school newsletter. This made the class extremely proud.
HISE- Japan
Konnichiwa
Our HSIE theme this term is... The study of a cultural group-Japan.
Each week we learn a little more about Japan's culture and make something for the back wall to remind us about the experience.
If you look at the wall you will see tiny origmi kimono, we made these after looking at the traditional clothing of Japanese people.
The blossoms represent the symbols Japanese people use to acknowledge nature, their culture and people. Other symbols include; the crane for a long life and happiness, the red disc on the flag representing the sun and the carp which is a symbol of strength.

Japanese Art Works
Did you know that Japan is famous for traditional and modern art.
The Great Wave is famous internationally and was crafted by the artist Katsushika Hokusai in1830. Hokusai was born in Edo (now known as Tokyo) in 1760. He was a master wood carver who went on to becoming an artist who sold his paintings on the streets. He painted the Great Wave because hisown grandson had gambled away all of his money and Hokusai and his daughter were forced to live in poverty.
His painting The Great Wave was sold for the price of two bowls of noodles to local people in Edo. Many people bought it and he lived the rest of his years in peace painting Mount Fuji in many different ways.
The great Wave influences modern artists today and is the most popular and well known traditional piece of Japansese art.

Manga Madness
We are MAD about Manga in 6W. We read about Manga, write about Manga, watch step by step videos about Manga and now we all draw Manga really well .
What is Manga you ask?Manga is a type of Japanese comic art. In 6W we learned to draw a variety of faces, bodies and genders using perspective and scaffolding. We are getting pretty good and look forward to displaying our work around the school.
